Nemesis By Anna Banks Talk-up

This isn't much a review but more of a talk-up. Where I talk up and hype (hopefully)books that I love!

Today I'm talking about NEMESIS! This particular book has a special place in my heart because Anna Banks had a book trailer contest for her Of Neptune book, and the winner got to name her male lead of her next fantasy book... and that winner was ME! So I sent Anna three names I thought would fit with the touchstone of her world she gave, and Tarik had been one of them :D Every time I see his name, I feel all gooshy inside.

Title: NEMESIS
By:
Expected publication: October 4th 2016 by Feiwel & Friends
Summary: The princess didn't expect to fall in love--with her nemesis.

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

NEMESIS is told in dual point of view between the princess Sepora and the prince Tarik. I'm such a sucker for dual point of view, it gets me every time. I just love seeing the story through the male lead's eyes as well.

Sepora is strong willed and determined, and also a good liar, if only the people around her weren't lingots, people who can tell when you're lying or not.

Tarik is the prince-turned-king, lingot, and in a boat load of crap right off the bat when a sickness sweeps through his kingdom that only the rare spectorium seems to be able to cure. Too bad the only way to get spectorium is from the Serubel kingdom who just completely cut them off suddenly.

Their relation ship is fun, and intense, with a power play going on. Tarik is the king, so he's put in an odd situation with Sepora's strong willed personality to say the least ;P

So I started looking for images to make a collage board and kind of fell into a Avan Jogia spiral. It's almost TOO perfect how much he reminds me of Tarik.

I mean... Come on. How can you resist??
I'll just leave these here for you....

Fear The Drowning Deep By Sarah Glenn Marsh Talk-Up

This isn't much a review but more of a talk-up. Where I talk up and hype (hopefully)books that I love!

Growing up only fifteen minutes from the ocean on the East coast, FEAR THE DROWNING DEEP left me feeling homesick for that old traditional feel of an old town like Plymouth.

This book makes me want to go to the beach on a cool, gray day and curl up with a blanket on the sand, with a hot cup of tea, and read.

Title: FEAR THE DROWNING DEEP
Expected publication: October 4th 2016 by Sky Pony Press

Summary: Sixteen-year-old Bridey Corkill longs to leave her small island and see the world; the farther from the sea, the better. When Bridey was young, she witnessed something lure her granddad off a cliff and into a watery grave with a smile on his face. Now, in 1913, those haunting memories are dredged to the surface when a young woman is found drowned on the beach. Bridey suspects that whatever compelled her Granddad to leap has made its return to the Isle of Man.

Soon, people in Bridey’s idyllic village begin vanishing, and she finds an injured boy on the shore—an outsider who can’t remember who he is or where he’s from. Bridey’s family takes him in so he can rest and heal. In exchange for saving his life, he teaches Bridey how to master her fear of the water—stealing her heart in the process.

But something sinister is lurking in the deep, and Bridey must gather her courage to figure out who—or what—is plaguing her village, and find a way to stop it before she loses everyone she loves.

This book has such a nice, rainy day feel to it. Just look at that gorgeous cover! The aesthetics of this books are no joke. The way Sarah weaves the descriptions of this little island town into a beautiful tapestry is just beautiful. I was so inspired, I had to try my hand at making a mood board.

The characters in this book have wonderful voices of their own. Bridey, the main character has three sisters, and each one of them is unique. I'm a sucker for stories with siblings, despite growing up an only child myself. I adore sibling relationships and friendships, and this book has both!
The romance.. It's so sweet and light and subtle, but also... like a riptide. It looks like a small wave, but underneath, it hits you with feels. (see what I did there? ;P )
And that ending! I need more! I need to know what happens! It's definitely an ending that is optimistic, but I still want more! I need an epilogue or a short story or... SOMETHING!

Writing & Life Update

I've done it! I've finally finished this round of revisions!!

Oh boy. Has it really been nine months since I signed with my agent? This year has been a roller coaster. There's been so many book signings and revisions and holidays and just. Wow. I feel like I don't post enough personal posts. But then I figure that no one really cares. But then I figured it would be nice to be able to look back and see what I was up to.

Since I signed with my agent, I've gone through three major revisions. Each has taken me about three months to get through, and this most recent one was a doozy. I made a huge switch from third person point of view to first person point of view--something I wasn't comfortable in writing until I actually did it. And after I did it, I knew that this was how my book was meant to be.
I can't believe how much better I feel about my MS after everything. I thought it was good when I queried, but now it's leveled up and evolved into something I feel more and more proud of. Honestly, revisions are my favorite part of writing. But I do want this book to be the best it can be and go off into the world. *crosses fingers* I'm not sure how soon that will be, but I hope someday it will happen.

Of course Editing would be a lot easier without this brat of a cat hogging my MS!
My latest revisions I had a self-set goal to finish by July 27th (My birthday) and even though I just missed it (returned the MS on Aug 1st) I still felt good about it.

I actually would have gotten my revision in on time, but we had a impromptu trip to New York to meet up with the BF's friend who was training in DC.

We had a super fun time going to interesting places, like this Ramen Noodle Bar with a really cool artistic headboard. I love the art.

And then we went to a Cat Cafe. It's not like the ones in Japan/ Korea, where the cats roam free, but it was still fun, and they had delicious sake!

Now that I've turned my revisions in, I'm kind of at a stand still. I know it's good to have a break now and then, and get some reading and relaxation in. But I'm hungry for more words. I have a YA contemporary in the back of my brain that I'd like to get done... I've never written contemporary before, but something about this story needs me to tell it...

Wish me luck!
